Tuesday, December 31, New Years Eve. I bright, sunny, mild winter’s day. Left home around 9 :30 AM with Don, Sue and Ivy. Traveled to Danville via Route 2 through Montpelier. First stop, Hastings General Store in West Danville to purchase our Ice Out tickets for the family. Drove from there down Keiser Pond Road to Harvey Hollow Road that took us through thick, beautiful, cedar woods and along Joe’s Brook. We stopped to explore Greenback’s Hollow Covered Bridge and the Forgotten Village. The Historical Society of Danville has done a wonderful job maintaining the site and it would be nice to go back in summer when you could walk along the nature trails that take you to the different home sites, that are now just empty rock foundation remnants. We got out, walked around, read the historic markers, took pictures and enjoyed the spot.
From there we drove into Danville, going past Scott and Emily’s old house which they had rented many years ago, before Emily had gone to grad school and while Scott worked as an accountant at Cabot Creamery in Cabot.
First we went to Mary’s General Store, which was very busy, and got lunch from the deli and some souvenirs. We took our lunch into the town of Danville and sat on at a picnic table in the green to eat since it was a sunny day. We took a few pictures in Danville to document our visit and left town around 2:30 and took the scenic route home through Hyde Park, Hardwick, Jericho etc. t
A very nice first town to begin our 251 quest!!!
