We moved on to Whitingham Antiques & Collectibles, 6677 Vermont Rte 100 in Whitingham to look around.  The owner was exuberant and allowed us to shop even though the shop was not officially open.  We bought purses which were sewn by an 87 year old woman. I also bought a sign with one of my favorite grace prayers. The owner told us of a dam we could walk on to get beautiful photos.

We found the Harriman Reservoir , but unfortunately, you can no longer walk on the dam, but we did get a few photos. It is a hydroelectric dam.  The water from the dam flows through a penstock to a power generation plant in the adjacent town ow Readsboro.

The dam was built by the New England Power Company on the Deerfield River in 1923.  It is an earthen dam with a concrete freestanding conical drain also known as “Ben’s glory hole”.  The reservoir is named after Henry I. Harriman who was president of the New England Power Company.
