Bakersfield is at the end of Rt 36 and T’s with Rt. 108 and is part of our highway maintenance area. On 11/27/20 we drove through Bakersfield and up Waterville Mountain Rd to pick off Waterville, Cambridge and other towns on Rt 15. I have spent a couple of nights at Pastor Lyle’s Hope Lodge. It is and has been a refuge for rest and reflection. Pastor Lyle Willey introduced me to a parcel of land off from a class 4 road where he believes a rugged old lady first prayed for revival in the area. Lyle shared a copy of her diary with me. A very special moment.

#2 8/15/2025. Ann wanted to go on a bike ride for her birthday.  It was also Bennington Battle Day, so I had the day off.  We decided to do a part of the LVRT that we hadn’t been on before. We started at Puddledock Grill n Scoop in Fairfield where we had lunch and talked to the owner, who was really nice. She also rents a cabin for through bikers. We rode 6 miles and barely entered Cambridge before we ran out of time and turned around. This was part of the trail I was always curious about. It is very easy peddling and the scenery is gorgeous. Peddling East to Cambridge presents some nice views of Mt. Mansfield. We placed a 251 rock on a ledge while returning back to the truck.
